Friday night with Freddie

The weekend is something that the kids usually look forward to, Friday means no more school for 2 days.

Friday morning we wake the kiddies as normal and when its Freddie’s turn to wake up we are not greeted with the smiley good morning I can’t wait for school.

Instead we are met with can I stay home today I have a cough?

Freddie loves school and never misses a day so for him to want to stay home we took as a sign of him feeling under the weather and he had a day in his pajamas.

This cough was a barking kind of cough, the type that makes him sound like seal which we knew straight away was Croup.

We knew this because he’s had it 4 times all ready and gets it often.

For those of you who don’t know what Croup is it’s a condition that usually affects babies and small children.

It’s a viral infection which gives your child a temperature, seal like barking cough and struggling to breathe.

Usually you can ride this out at home by using Calpol for the temperature and steam to help clear the air waves but this time Freddie woke up seeming a bit worse for wear.

We sent him to bed at 7pm for a good nights sleep and within an hour he was awake coughing, crying and wheezing.

I bring him downstairs and check his temperature where it was 38.8 after Calpol, he was shaking and breathing heavy.

Cheryl called 111 to get some advice and after hearing Freddie trying to breathe over the phone they sent out an ambulance.

After assessing him they decided to take him in to be checked out.

Freddie would get his first ride in an ambulance which he loved every second of.

We get to hospital and we are shown into a cubicle to wait to be seen, its late and Freddie is tired so trying to keep him awake is a hard task indeed

Were seen by a nurse who gave him some more medicine which tasted like Orange and some strong steroids which didn’t taste as nice.

We waited for 4 hours to be seem by a doctor so we took Freddie into the play room for a while to play with some toys until we were seen.

A lovely doctor came to examine him and he was by far the best doctor i’ve seen.

He asked Freddie question, let him listen to his own heartbeat and even tickle attacked him.

It was explained to us about Croup and that with the long-lasting steroids he would feel better in a few days.

The doctor then brought out a leaflet and knelt down to Freddie’s level and explained to him how he can treat himself and all about Croup before tickling him once more and sending us home.

We arrive home at 2am where he falls straight to sleep but the next few days are rough and we are some tried parents.

Get better soon Bear x

Six weeks holidays from boy to man

When you were a kid the six-week holiday would seem forever and consisted of lie ins and going out with your friends do activity’s and causing trouble…or that was just me.

If anyone has read mine or Cheryl’s blogs you will know all about Harry our eldest son.

Harry isn’t your typical boy he is his own person, he like things clean and tidy, he likes to learn new things in and out of school and is very timid, shy, naive and was nervous about most things.

When Harry started senior school he had problem right of the bat, because he was so small and looked vulnerable people took advantage of that and he was an easy target for bullying.

We had changed his school a few times before we found the right on where he settled down, made some new good friends who all had the same interests and we started to see him grow.

He soon was winning awards and being picked for things like university.

The six weeks holiday was upon us a brand and with this brought a brand new Harry right before our eyes.

Now I don’t know what changed in him maybe its hormones or the alignment of the moon and stars or whatever but he changed and he changed fast.

The first thing was Harry seemed to lose all fear over night, now this is a boy who was scared of his own shadow at one point but now he’s looking after the babies more, clearing gardens, killing spiders even picking up dead mice for the neighbours when their cat brought in a lovely gift for them.

Who is this boy?

Nothing was too much for him, anything asked of him was done straight way with no questions asked.

Harry has always been into tech and was wanted to decorate his bedroom so like any normal teenager me and his mom was fully expecting not only to pay to do it but do all the work.

But that’s not how it played out at all!

He starts advertising on Facebook for work he can do to earn his own money at the age of 14 and the response he got was overwhelming about how he was doing this off his own back.

HE was offered some work helping redecorate a house and he worked his little socks off all day and was so pleased to have earned his own money at the end of the day to go towards his new room.

Now he is getting all sorts of offers for work for babysitting to dog watching and its all because he wants to be independent.

I’m so so proud to watch this young boy grow into a young man over the space of six weeks

As a parent you have proud moments and this is defiantly one of them, I have always said that young man will change the world and each and every day he just shows me that he’s more than capable of doing it.

Watch out world because here he comes!

End of school term update

As we all know the end of school term has happened and im sure most of us are already at the point of what are we going to do to entertain the children for all these weeks ahead.

So how did the kids do at the end of the school year and what do they have to look forward to in the new school year?

If you know Harry you will know that he has had such a rough time when it comes to school.

With the last two schools he had to leave after being bullied so we picked a new school out-of-the-way for him hoping this would be the break he needs and boy did Harry take this opportunity with both hands and run with it!!

A brand new Harry appeared, he put his head down and worked his ass off.

Getting a completely new set of friends which he is actually able to call friends, he goes out to the local town centre and enjoys his time instead of hiding away.

School life he has smashed it, after getting a place at the University of Wolverhampton for a few days to study he was given not only the change to experience new things and learn at a higher level but to gain a new level of Independence on which he thrived in.

The letter arrived that Harry had once again won an achievement award but in another school this time and of course it was for Computer Science 2 years in a row.

I cant wait to see what Harry manages to do with year 10 and the things he can go on to achieve in the future.

Ellie Jayne
Ellie Jayne

Ellie Jayne continuous to surprise us, she is one of them people who just has everything and they don’t even know it.

Shes beautiful, funny and incredibly clever but she’s so modest with it.

We are always getting emails for Ellie getting house points, her parents evenings are perfect and she has a close-set of friends in which shes loyal to.

At the end of this term she has had ups, downs and heartache but despite this all we get the email as Ellie had won an achievement award, her very first.

It could have been for anything and we didn’t tell her what it was for but to her surprise she got the award for Maths and was also nominated for English.

The end of year rankings came in and Ellie has been 1st, 7th, 8th and 10th so we waiting as the email came in and she nailed it coming 5th!

Annabelle has had a good year, she has really bucked her ideas up and knuckled down with her work and has grown in confidence.

She is our happy-go-lucky Annabelle, her school report was a lot better and much more positive.

We watched her sports day where she usually comes last but she was so positive and gave it her all.

One thing you know about Annabelle is she loves to sing and she has been putting in the work to win a place in Young Voices where they get to sing in an arena with other schools with a celebrity.

Shes worked so hard and got so far so fingers crossed for her.

What a year this boy has had.

From going into nursery not being able to mix with others and just stay by himself, he has come out a completely different boy.

Confident, talkative and has learnt so much like counting, writing his name and learning to share which is a big thing for Freddie.

His time has finished at nursery and in September he goes to his new big school and he cannot wait!

After having a few taster days he keeps asking when its time to go, after just celebrating his 4th birthday it really hits home how fast this little boy is growing.

Madam Bethie has come on leaps and bounds.

He amazes me everyday, she speaks so well and is so confident in everything she does.

She is a happy little soul with a big personality to match, you cant help look at this girl and fall in love as she carries around her bunnies.

But sadly to me in September she goes to nursery which means my baby girl is growing up fast.

Best make the most of the holidays before they start on new years and new adventures.

Battle of the Cartoons, Mine vs the Kids

After watching TV with my kids earlier it got me thinking about the difference between children’s TV now compared to what I would watch as a child, so how do we find out who is the best?….well it’s a battle of course!

So I have picked 5 of my TV shows as a child/teen to battle with 5 of my children’s shows today and let’s see who is the best.

Battle One.

Kenan and Kel – I used to love this show growing up, it was about 2 teenagers who were best friends and they would get into all sorts of trouble, mainly because Kenan had all these bright ideas and Kel would go along with them usually bribed with his love of Orange Soda with the famous phrase any kid in the 90’s would know as”Who love’s orange soda?”. The into was cool rapped by Coolio who also featured in the titles starting with Kel’s phrase ” Oh here it goes!”

Sam & Cat – This show is about two girls who start their own babysitting business and get into weird situations and adventures. Sam is the tough girl straight out of Juvenal and Cat is the slightly simple pretty one just happily getting by. With their friends getting them in and out of mischief these 2 still become the best of friends and somehow still keep their babysitting jobs.

Winner Kenan & Kel
Winner Kenan & Kel

Battle Two

Saved by the Bell – This was based at a high school and has the usual characters such as the good-looking one, simple one and talented one. This show was based on comedy situations but it wasn’t all fun and laughs as it would sometimes focus on the more real situations like drugs. The most famous character that everyone knew in this of course Screech. I have to say this wasn’t my kind of thing to watch as it generally just bored me, that and i couldn’t stand screech and his unusually long face.

Victorious – A group of teens in a musical arts school, again it has all of the usual characters the good-looking one, class clown and of course the talented one. Everyday there is a problem or a task they have to do which usually ends in a mash-up song which to be fair    arent to bad. You know when you have seen enough when 2 minutes into the show you know what episode it is before the kids.

Battle Three

Barney – Barney was a big part of my life as I remember bringing my little brother downstairs and I would sit him on the sofa and he would watch this massive purple dinosaur dance around within a classroom. He would sing and dance and teach you things and at the end he would sing the I love you song which even to this day I can remember off heart. Oh how I miss that dinosaur.

Teletubbies– Now these have been around for years even when I was a teen but the reason they are on t he now list is that they are still around now and my 1 year old watches them, but it’s just not the Teletubbies now…oh no it’s their babies!! The problem I have with the them is they don’t talk properly to the point where my baby started saying “eho” instead of hello but it’s bright and colourful and it keeps the baby entertained.

Battle Four

Power Rangers – This was about a group of teenagers who would transform into ninjas with the power of certain dinosaurs, they would battle evil ninjas and monsters who would try to take over the world. The big battle would consist of the bad guy growing 100ft tall so they Power Rangers would crate a massive robot that would come with a giant sword and the two would battle Godzilla style!

Henry Danger – A pair of crime fighters who protect Swellview, Captain Man is the main superhero that is indestructible. All the characters in this show are funny and with their own quirks including the bad guys like The Toddler and Drill Finger. I have to say this show makes me laugh at some point in the show. I enjoy watching this more than the kids do.

Battle Five

RugRats – Tommy Pickle and his gang, this is a cartoon about a group of babies who everyday break out of they play pen and explore going on all sorts of adventures. Tommy was always bald and never wore trousers, Chucky was bright ginger with glasses, twins Phil and Lil and finally the bossy older child Angelica despite her name is a naughty child.  This was everyone’s favourite children’s TV show before school, all we can do is sit back and just wait for any re runs.

Peppa Pig – Peppa has taken over the world, a family of pigs with Peppa being the oldest and bossiest at that. He favourite thing to do in the world is jump in muddy puddles (being a pig and all) I don’t mind Peppa but her attitude stinks, right to the point where we had to stop my 3 year old watching it because he refused to say sorry just like Peppa until we said sorry first.

Winner RugRats

So there we have it, in my opinion we had way better kids TV than today with the score being 3-2.

What’s your thoughts?
